Sodium triphosphate (STP), also sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP), or tripolyphosphate (TPP) is an inorganic compound with formula Na5P3O10. It is produced on a large scale as a component of many domestic and industrial products, especially detergents.


STPP is a preservative for seafood, meats, poultry, and animal feeds. It is common in food production as E number E451. In foods, STPP is used as an emulsifier and to retain moisture. Many governments regulate the quantities allowed in foods, as it can substantially increase the sale weight of seafood in particular. The United States Food and Drug Administration lists STPP as "generally recognized as safe."

Usage: 
1. It is used as one of the main auxiliaries agent for synthetic detergent, synergist for soap.
2. Tanning agent for making leather.
3. Softener for water in industry.
4. An effective dispersion agent for suspension treatment of painting, kaolin, magnesium oxide, calcium carbonate and drilling mud.
5. Resistance agent of the oil contamination in paper production.
6. The food industry for the improvement of the quality of canned, fruit juice beverage, dairy and soy milk agent; mainly for canned ham meat tenderizer, canned broad beans in the Yuba softening. It can also be used as softening agent and thickener
